The Owlery usually smelled faintly of straw, although the current rainstorm that was lingering over Hogwarts for all of this morning had washed a lot of it away. It was early, painfully early for a Saturday to say the least. The weak shimmers of sunrise had tried to pass through the clouds a couple of times and failed dismally. By this point, it seemed to have given up altogether. The rain had engulfed all of what Tonks could see out of the glassless windows, some of the rain spraying in.
Tonks took a couple steps back, pulling out a small piece of parchment, ripped off and only a few inches in length, rolling it up to fit the carrier owl's leg.

Don't worry, I've been using different owls for everything. Constant vigilance, yeah yeah. Haven't heard from you in a while. Been wondering if you've finally gone raving mad.

"Find Mad-Eye Moody," she said to the Barn Owl who merely blinked at her. She tied the small bit of parchment that contained her messy handwriting to the leg of the owl, pointing a finger to the heavily raining outside. The owl all but gave her a glare and pushed off into the rain, pausing for a moment before heading south, wings close together against the rain.
Mad-Eye was really the only person she wrote to nowadays, excluding the occasional visit to Dumbledore and Kingsley to keep her cover intact. She had to go to the Ministry soon, she knew that much. Nowadays she hated going, but it was inevitable.
